Forschungsmanagement in Europa: Ein Überblick über aktuelle Initiativen, Projekte und Entwicklungen im EU-Kontext
Mit dem 2020 gestarteten „Neuen Europäischen Forschungsraum“ und der daraus abgeleiteten Politischen Agenda (ERA Policy Agenda) hat die Entwicklung der EU-Forschungspolitik eine neue Stufe erreicht. Seitdem wird erstmals ein professionelles Forschungsmanagement als unerlässlicher Bestandteil und „Ermöglicher“ von exzellenter Forschung anerkannt und gefördert. In einer Reihe politischer Initiativen und HORIZON EUROPE-geförderter Projekte entstehen seither Leitlinien, Rahmenkonzepte und handfeste Managementinstrumente, die für das Forschungsmanagement in Europa wegweisend sind.
Im ZWM Lunch&Talk mit Nik Claesen am 23.02.2026 werden wir einen Überblick über diverse Maßnahmen und Projekte seitens der EU diskutieren, die die Professionalisierung des Forschungsmanagements in Europa voranbringen sollen. Dazu zählen z.B. das Anfang 2025 verabschiedete „European Competence Framework for Research Managers“ (RM Comp) und das Projekt „RM Framework“ (2025 – 2027), mit der Erarbeitung eines Rahmenkonzepts für die Qualifizierung im Forschungsmanagement inkl. Qualitätslabel, an dem auch das ZWM beteiligt ist.
Nik Claesen ist Geschäftsführer der European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA) und koordiniert u.a. die EU-geförderten Projekte RM Roadmap und RM Framework. Sein Ziel ist das Forschungsmanagement in Europa weiter zu verbessern, die Vernetzung von ForschungsmanagerInnen zu intensivieren und den Austausch von Best Practices zu erleichtern. Nik Claesen ist absoluter Experte für Fragen des europäischen Forschungsmanagements und wir sind gespannt auf die Insights, die er mit uns teilen wird.
Die Veranstaltung findet am 23.02.2026, 12:00 – 13:00 Uhr, online statt. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos. Nach dem Input-Vortrag besteht wie immer ausreichend Gelegenheit für Diskussion und Fragen.

Research management in Europe: An overview of current initiatives, projects and developments in the EU context
With the launch of the New European Research Area in 2020 and the resulting ERA Policy Agenda, the development of EU research policy has reached a new level. For the first time, professional research management is now recognised and promoted as an indispensable component and enabler of excellent research. A series of political initiatives and HORIZON EUROPE-funded projects have since produced guidelines, framework concepts and concrete management tools that are groundbreaking for research management in Europe.
At the ZWM Lunch&Talk with Nik Claesen on 23 February 2026, we will discuss an overview of various EU measures and projects aimed at advancing the professionalisation of research management in Europe. These include, for example, the European Competence Framework for Research Managers (RM Comp), adopted in early 2025, and the RM Framework project (2025–2027), which involves the development of a framework concept for qualification in research management, including a quality label, in which the ZWM is also involved.
Nik Claesen is the Managing Director of the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA) and coordinates, among other things, the EU-funded projects RM Roadmap and RM Framework. His goal is to further improve research management in Europe, intensify networking among research managers and facilitate the exchange of best practices. Nik Claesen is an absolute expert on European research management issues and we are looking forward to the insights he will share with us.
The event will take place online on 23 February 2026, from 12:00 to 13:00. Participation is free of charge. As always, there will be ample opportunity for discussion and questions after the input lecture.
